This error can occur if your (self-signed) digital certificate has expired.
By default the plug-in creates a self-signed certificate with 1-year validity the first time you use it.
Provided that the "Create Certificate" option in the installer is enabled (see screenshot in number 6 below) then it should auto-renew.
Alternatively you can manually generate a new self-signed certificate from the Details Dialog by selecting "New ID" which is the bottom entry in the Certificate drop-down:
You will then be prompted to enter your details for the certicate and you can select a validity period of up to 5 years.
Regardless of you how generate a new certificate, make sure that you select it from the dialog box which appears when signing:
If the dialog box does not appear on your system then it can be enabled as follows:
-
Go to the list of Programs in Control Panel (may be called Apps and Features)
-
Select the entry for "sign pro plug-in for Adobe Acrobat"
-
Click the "Modify" button:
-
On the "Welcome" screen click "Next":
-
On the next screen select "Change":
-
On the options screen click the checkbox for "Show details dialog":
-
Reboot your PC
-
The next time you sign a PDF using the plug-in the "Details dialog" should be displayed and you can select your desired certificate
